1. Guest Speaker
Danju Wong from City of Sydney Library invited Calvin Tang to discuss the Dragonsourse group from Canada. This electronic database is a collection of the most popular periodicals published in China, covering over 1700 titles and more than 3 million articles.
Mr. Tang intends to discuss distribution through the SLNSW
2. WGMLS Seminar 2008
“Language and Identity” to be held 0n 21st October at SLNSW.
The State Librarian has agreed to open the seminar. Multicultural Awards for Excellence will also be presented at the Seminar.
The Preparation Committee to finalise the draft program. Members of the group proposed, in addition to the draft, a Panel discussion (1 hr., at the end of the Seminar) focusing on certain topics of interest:
Panel discussion would include guests / experts to answer questions on the following 5 selected topics:
* General principles and standards for community languages collections and CALD services. (Christine Judd)(For Benchmarking multicultural library service see also : “Culturally diverse communities and the public library: a review of NSW public library multicultural services (SL NSW 2003)

* Models for sharing CALD resources best practices (such as WESTCO) (Noel Willis)
* Providing services for ageing communities (Wendy Gindi) dealing with lack of Audio resources, partnerships etc.
* Community consultation (Noel Willis) models, obstacles and benefits.
* L materials organizing and promoting resources for learning English.

4. Multicultural Excellence Awards 2008 (to be presented at the Seminar)

5. Multicultural Cooperative
Discussion held over until Shauna Miller can be present to discuss some current problems (duplicates, records Kasia ).
6. Alternative funding History of WGMLS
Continuing to source funding for this project. To explore the possibility of applying for National Library Local History Grant
7. IFLA 2010 IFLA Section on Library Services to Multicultural Populations our candidacy to host the event confirmed by the Standing Committee Meeting In Heidelberg Germany (the latest message)

City of Sydney
Danju Wong asked about promotion of multicultural services, and it was suggested we contact the library representatives who attend the marketing meetings to ask for multicultural services be included in their program
Parramatta
Pauline Chan presented new Parramatta library brochures, published in 14 languages : http://www.parracity.nsw.gov.au/culture__and__leisure/library see under Opening hours and locations.
Pauline is looking to organize bi lingual story telling workshops :
Training for volunteers story telling in community languages Please send expressions of interest with the number of people and the languages required through to Pauline Chan pchan@parracity.nsw.gov.au.
If there is a sufficient number of volunteers, this 1 day training workshop will be conducted in ENGLISH, probably in September.
Fairfield
Noel requires feedback for the final report on the Glossary database ASAP.
