Inner West Home Library Service provides a 4-weekly, delivery to eligible residents residing within the 27 suburbs that comprise the Inner West Local Government Area, no medical certificate is currently required to join the Home Library Service. With a forecast population for 2025 of 191, 000, Inner West Council covers an area of 35 square KM from Balmain to Tempe in Sydney’s Inner West. We have a staff of 3 full time Home Library staff and 2 part time courier/drivers providing a year-round service to 215 individual residents and 28 aged care homes through 15 separate Home Library delivery routes. We provide service to frail aged, those with mobility issues, post operative care patients, new and expectant mothers, full time carers and others in need of assistance to access library services. We provide non-contact service to aged care homes and limited contact service to patrons residing in their own homes Home Library staff utilise the resources of the 8 Inner West Libraries to select library materials for our patrons utilising the functions of the Spydus Home Library Module and supported by a patron profile established at the time of joining and maintained through patron feedback. Some patrons elect to manage their own selection by reserving their own titles utilising the library catalogue and the Inner West Libraries App to do so. Additional support services are provided through provision of portable CD and DVD players, placement of Inter Library Loan and purchase requests and satisfaction of Local History enquiries. Phone based tech support is provided for assistance with the catalogue and the library app. We provide an intermediary link between our service and other support services within Inner West Council and external services such as Vision Australia and Meals on Wheels. Home Library deliveries are made on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings using custom made Home Library bags and utilising a purpose fitted electric vehicle.
