Home Library Service Working Group Meeting Minutes 7th May 2018

Burwood Library.

1. Confirmation of previous meeting

2. Welcome from Melissa Sherlock-Burwood Library Service coordinator.

3. Overview of Burwood Home Library Service Susan Bradley Hoy.

  • Has had a decline in patronage due to changing demographic, increase in CALD community, biggest groups are Mandarin, Cantonese, Hindi.
  • 3 days/wk staff time for HL, 2 days per week for delivery on a 3 weekly cycle
  • 6 aged care facilities and 40 individual clients
  • Also runs a seniors reading group – 10 ladies meet 1x week at the library
  • Everyone encouraged to submit their HLS profiles to the wiki please.

4. Judy Hallet from My aged Care gave an overview of MAC.

  • Doctors/ professionals can refer directly.
  • points of contact are the enquiry line 1800 200 422 or the e referral service from the portal My Aged Care
  • The online portal is the gateway for services and information for seniors 65 and over, Aboriginal 50 yrs and over, to receive government subsidised services.
  • There are 4 levels of packages, access requires an asset test through Centrelink, and an assessment for eligibility.
  • the service goal is enablement, the assessment looks at what the client can/can’t do.
  • Call centres are Nationwide as is the wait list. Private providers can provide packages if accreditated.
  • When a package is assigned, the client has to choose a provider from a list, they can ask to have a case manager, if a family member cannot assist with the process. The provider has to list service costs, and may charge an exit fee.
  • Unordered List Item: There are lots of resources available on the portal for our patrons, which promote wellness and enablement, these are available to download in other languages

6. Seniors in Focus Seminar November 16th @ State Library.

Unordered List Item: Julie Anne has drafted a program which is pretty full and will confirm speakers before the next HLSWG meeting in August.

7. Programming

  • Narellan had Cooking demonstrations with local sustainability group in the library. Garden to Table for Seniors and cooking for 1 or 2. Also digital photography class.
  • Penrith had DHS come to the library in Seniors week to give a talk on pensions.
  • Art in Ageing exhibition is touring over the next 18 months.
