Spotlight on multicultural services in libraries – an opportunity to share the wonderful, inspirational, innovative stuff happening in our libraries which we don’t often hear about. Previous program included a monthly offering for about an hour via Zoom meeting, akin to a toolbox talk, and ran for about six months. The program offered a great opportunity for sharing experiences, especially with regional areas. Invitation extended to consider volunteering, to discuss opportunity with manager etc.

Strategic Plan 2021-2025 The group reviewed and discussed the Multicultural Strategic Plan, focusing on relevance and how we measure achievement of objectives. It was determined (without opposition) that the tabled Terms of Reference for the Working Group on Multicultural Library Services (NSW) and its stated objectives more closely aligned with the actual activities of the Working Group on Multicultural Library Services (NSW). A decision was made to retire the Strategic Plan 2021-2025 immediately and retain the document on the NSW public library wiki for reference purposes.

Minutes from all meetings are to be shared with Library Manager.

Other business

Multicultural bulk loan services report – 6 May 2024 (Joanna Goh, Collection Services Coordinator) Report included an update on the State Library of NSW Multicultural Service 50th anniversary celebrations, navigation of the new State Library and Public Library Services website, an update on the Multicultural Bulk Loan Service, returning overdue loans, and using Parcel Send Return labels correctly. A copy of the report has been distributed via multicultural@libraries.nsw.gov.au on 15 May 2024.

SLNSW single sign in is coming (Joanna) A unique email address will soon be required for each individual card held by libraries. Information and guidance for action required will be forwarded in due course.

Tech Savvy Seniors (Shauna Miller, Multicultural Cooperative Coordinator SLNSW) The Department of Communities and Justice have approved funding for the program for another 12 months. Invitation for libraries to apply for funding will be issued soon, with a short turnaround time anticipated.

Contact list for locally based authors who speak and write in community languages (Stephanie Lee, Bayside) A request has been made for the details of locally based authors who speak and write in community languages, and would be willing to present an author talk, to be forwarded to Stephanie to collate into a list for sharing. Please include the author/artists name, contact number, email address, and snippet outlining book or body of work when forwarding suggestions.

In the Libraries (Abby Dawson) Call out made for articles to be submitted for In the Libraries which features short articles and photos, giving an up-to-date snapshot of what’s happening in NSW public libraries. 150 words plus picture with a multicultural services focus would be most welcome. A story about an exhibition of the national costumes of the Philippines currently taking place at Liverpool was suggested for submission.

Meeting close: 3:30pm

Next meeting: Liverpool City Library on Thursday, 22 August 2024, chaired by Katherine Zhu
