Appoint a committee to follow up on this objective
Kasia said that the Home Library Working group may be working on a similar project. Oriana will attend that meeting and report back on the outcome Wendy asked if the State Library held audio books in the LOTE collection. Can LOTE suppliers provide the latest audio books?
Action: Shauna to follow up with suppliers, Arabic, Chinese, Hindi, Korean and Vietnamese Also email libraries instructions on how to check the State Library catalogue for their holdings of audio books in LOTE
Objective 2: To provide members of the group with a forum for discussion and for peer support
Strategy 1: Facilitate training and professional development

It was decided that this committee was no longer necessary so it has been disbanded. Laurence suggested instead of contacting libraries and asking them to obtain this information, through their circulation system, the types of languages and formats their CALD communities are borrowing.
Action: Laurence and Shauna will create a spreadsheet which will be sent to library managers requesting that they populate the data as required.
My Language
MyLanguage website – NSLA’S have decided to discontinue the MyLanguage website. Oriana wants to retain some of this information as it is very valuable to the CALD community. She will try and migrate some of the information on the MyLanguage website to the State Library’s website.
Action: Oriana will meet with the State Library’s IT department to discuss how information can be migrated across.
Standing Order Trial
At the recent seminar held by Shauna for libraries on the purchasing of LOTE material libraries raised their concerns about turnaround times in relation to their LOTE orders. As a result Shauna has devised another method of obtaining LOTE material. Libraries will be invited to take part in a trial where they will agree to purchase 30 Simplified Chinese Adult Fiction books 3 times a year a a cost of AUS $2,000.00 inc GST. Cataloguing and end processing charges will be extra
Readit Air
At the previous meeting there was a demonstration by the distributors of Readit Air. Information was also sent to Library Managers. She asked for an Expression of Interest from libraries interested in purchasing this product for their library. If 10 libraries or more want to order this then a discounted price will be negotiated. One unit costs $2,090.00 for the supply of 10 units it will cost $1,400.00
The main purpose of this product was for visually impaired users. It is able to read in 20 languages so it is suitable for some CALD communities. It can also be used for clients to learn a language.
As the CALD community is ageing we have to think of new ways of delivering services.
The key features of this product:
1. Size. The reader is compact 2. It magnifies the print on the screen 3. It will support literacy and is quite discrete 4. It is very portable
Action: Oriana will email information to libraries on this product. She encouraged members to discuss this further with their library managers
E-Book Project
E Books exist for individual but it is difficult for libraries to access. NSW net is working on a project to buy e books on the State Library server.

Are Libraries interested in joining a trial with Canterbury Wendy will circulate more information on this trial to libraries
SBS Project
The SBS Project is about continually promoting multicultural services to the CALD communities. An external group has been set up which will promote information about library services to the community at large. The native, fluent speakers will undergo an induction course at the State Library. The first meeting will take place in June. This is a trial
Anzac Day There is a large Turkish community in Auburn so they will be holding several events in relation to Anzac Day.
Kemal suggested inviting Harvey Broadband to the next meeting to talk about Anzac Day celebrations
Gallipoli Mosque in Auburn. Kemal will send out information about their events.
Film clubs in the Library
Oriana looked into this on behalf of Marrickville Library and found that if libraries want to show an SBS film in a library it’s free. Another option is to try Roadshow. For films distributed by Roadshow you can get a Blanket Licence for libraries, which costs $250.00 per year. One stipulation re this licence that the only advertising or promotion of the film night can be done within the library no external advertising can be done.
You can air films, in your collection, as long as they have been distributed by certain companies. For more information go to Roadshow Public Performance Licensing www.roadwhowppl.com.au
