Introductions Slam the boards Slam the Boards Ellen to set up an alert on the 8th of the month for ‘Slam the Boards’ Pick and choose questions to answer based on your time and expertise Consider using Slam the Boards as a reference training tool
Web 2.0- is anyone using twitter lists?
- Twitter Lists
- Useful way to aggregate a list of tweeps around a subject, eg. Romance readers for Readers’ Advisor work
- Example of library tweeting about collection titles http://twitter.com/cglibrary
- Consider your reason for using twitter and what you will use to measure whether it is successful
Planning for the future of reference and information services - what are the challenges and what are the opportunities
- Future of Reference and Information Services
- Challenges: Marketing reference services and resources – getting people to try new formats, how do we engage our users (make time to show new resources in person), getting staff to develop knowledge of range of resources (professional development), maintaining a reference collection of books/objects (do people want to visit the library to use them?)
- Opportunities: focus on intensely local information in all forms (including electronic),
- What can we stop doing to make time for the things we want to do?
Learning 2.1 http://publiclibrariesnewtechnologies.blogspot.com/
- Learning 2.1
- Re-introducing tools from Learning 2.0 that have either changed or people found challenging.
- Adding new tools that were not in Learning 2.0
