Agenda

· Any PLN facebook updates

As at 25 May 2016, 620 likes a growth of 25.76% since our last subgroup meeting in 3 March 2016.

For the period of Friday 3 March – Wednesday 25 May 2016 We served 178 posts [ an average of 2.14 per day) with a total reach of 76, 807 users and a total impress count of 142,789.

The most viewed posts are humorous posts.

Steph from Wollongong discussed in depth how facebook helps her Library with events and generating interest with the public. Recommendations were made to post no more than 1 update a day max 2. Peak times for viewing are between 7 – 9pm. Monthly downloads of insights. Discuss with staff re good content. Only post high quality pics that don’t look pixelated.

· An open round table discussion was held about the pending and recently proclaimed local government amalgamations and the effects on library services.

· When is it time to pull a failing program or event?

Randwick suggests – fake it to make it – create a crowd from staff to boost numbers. Give the program time to build a base and promote specifically. Larger events are harder for them to fill up with no shows.

Ku Ring Gai – less than 10 tickets – pull it. If the program means a lot to the Library sometimes a small event has the personal touch and creates and intimate feel.

‘Cancel’ is a strong word and should be changed to postponed to evaluate further down the line. Consider catering costs – is it worth going ahead?

· The 20-30 something male reader – rarer than the white rhino

Waverley launched its Gen Y bookclub in January. The club was launched for the 20s and 30’s men and women – to come in after work – have a glass of wine and discuss gen y specific books (Fightclub, Scar tissue, On the road) etc. The program was plugged hard, in the library local bookstores, facebook, local radio podcasts, local newspapers. It was successful …… with women 20+ joined but only 2 men. Still to this day there have been no new men enquiring.

Waverley will be seeking guys for a men only book club. At this stage its only expressions of interest. We discussed ways to get the men interested in this club. Wollongong suggested taking the club out of Libraries and holding them in a pub – books and beer feel. Plug the programs in kid’s program classes where a lot of women attend and can relay info on to partners. Books based on movies only – so it’s not so full on for the men. Book suggested lists on beer coasters - make it fun and playful. Make sure you promote the club in areas guys hang out in – pubs, coffee shops, gyms etc. Thanks everyone for helpful advice.
