What makes an effective online and offline reference collection. Bring your suggestions along to the meeting. What would be your core list of titles (any format)?
Report back from the Information Online conference – report from any attendees Papers, slides (for keynote presentations) and some podcasts are available from here http://www.information-online.com.au/ (follow the link to conference papers)
Discussion was around the keynote sessions on Thursday with Andy Hines talking about Anticipating the future of librarians: understanding trends and staying relevant in the digital age and Michael Ossipoff presenting on Staff and customer engagement, our "hybrid" lives, and innovation. Another impressive keynote was Elizabeth Lawton’s session on Libraries as happiness engines. For organisations with interesting use of web 2.00 tools listen to Mal Booth talking about Digital convergence at the Australian War Memorial. Also look at Laura Campbell’s presentation on Strategic directions and initiatives at the Library of Congress (watch out for the launch of the World Digital Library http://www.worlddigitallibrary.org/project/english/index.html check out the video)
Learning 2.0 – ideas about this were covered in the afternoon session looking at the RISG blogs http://www.nsw-risg.org/weblog/ and http://www.nsw-risg.org/newtech/ , readers advisory wiki http://readersadvisory.wikifoundry.com , forum http://www.nsw-risg.org/forum/ and ref-ex wiki http://wiki.libraries.nsw.gov.au/index.php/Reference_excellence . Ideas for the 2009 reference seminar. What do you want to find out about? Discussion about what would be useful to hear about at the reference seminar 5 May. General business
Next meeting date and location (see agenda for July meeting below).
The staff of Lithgow Library were thanked for hosting this meeting.
Note if your library is out of Sydney you might like to think about hosting a meeting of the Reference and Information Services Group in 2010.
