1. Welcome and Apologies - No apologies were sent
2. Minutes from last meeting - It was identified that several people did not receive minutes from previous meeting. - Minutes to be distributed through numerous channels
3. Social Media Strategy - Public Libraries NSW/ NSW Metropolitan Public Libraries Association merger into New South Wales Public Libraries Association has created an opportunity to leverage the name of an organisational body (adding legitimacy) and also an avenue for funding - New South Wales Public Libraries Association to be approached to determine interest in Facebook group and for potential funding - Discussion of the subgroup meeting, the Facebook group URL/Name and our changed objective of changing community perceptions of Public Libraries by creating conversations and building advocates, and communicating relevancy, services and value to the community - Facebook domain name of PublicLibrariesNSW was agreed - Discussion about the style of content which will be developed. - A cheat sheet detailing what is s a good post and what is a bad post, as well as a comprehensive timeline will be developed. - Idea of an intern was discussed - Intern was considered; for further discussion when campaign document is created - Discussion around Mylee Joseph’s presentation on Social Media - Request to Mylee Joseph to present at the next PLN meeting.
4. Issues from last meeting
- Do we have a state library contact? What are their contact details?
- Is there a way to access the WIKI and bring all minutes together?
- Connection to other PLN groups – - It was decided that after the Marketing group is better established we may have capacity to begin working on campaigns for other PLN groups - Discussion regarding the relevance of library marketing plans. Are they important and do staff use them? - These plans lay a directional framework and are vital to create a collective voice.
5. PLN Marketing Awards
- PLN Marketing awards have been taken over by the executive of the NSW Public Libraries Association. - Congratulations to the Libraries which won or received other commendations. - The 2014 awards were rather rushed, with insufficient time allowed for entrants 6. Library Brochures and Handouts what works? - Discussion of rebrand of several libraries. How do you make brochures look professional? - A more professional product increases interest. - Which are the best methods of communicating directly to the public? - Digital screens are very effective. 7. Information exchange and other Business - Many libraries discussed plans for the Day of Action. - Two coastal libraries are holding beach libraries this year. - Innovative events, like comic conversation, have been well received by Local Government Areas. - Anzac centenary is highlighted as being a major project by several libraries.
- Many libraries are still struggling with their council to allow them social media channels.
8. Future Meetings
- Discussion around the responsibilities of the host regarding the sending of invitations and taking minutes
- Meeting host will send out invitations 3 weeks prior to meeting and also collate agenda items
- Host of next meeting will take minutes and distribute
- Discussion about next meeting before shopfront closes so all members could review campaign document prior to submission. - Meeting on the 26/2/2015 will be held at Waverley
- Meeting on the 28/5/2015 will be held at Ryde - Meeting on the 27/8/2015 will be held at the State Library in the Macquarie Room from 10am-1pm.
