3. Book clubs
Melanie from Warringah spoke of her phenomenally successful book club program. Melanie said that customers wanted books for their own book clubs and they also wanted book clubs to join. Warringah have a set of 10 books in a box. It consists of:
*book *folder which contains bookmarks, a sheet to write down what book has been given out to each person and a readers guide to the book.
- There are 187 books in the collection.
- Notes are either from google or are generic book club notes
Don’t need to have a librarian there to facilitate the book club. They had no book clubs at Warringah so they ran a seminar ‘ how to run a book club’. There are now 163 book clubs!
There has been positive feedback to Council about it. It ticks all the boxes: lifelong learning and a love of reading. They are stored across four branches and are on a first come first served basis: no reservations. The charge is $25 a year per book club, 6 weeks loan and no renewal. Warringah have a $7,000 budget for the book club and they buy from bookdepository.com and Australian books from book shops. Melanie recommended buying trade paperbacks. They also have a set of Kindles to borrow and they are preloaded and a Sony to borrow. Please contact Melanie for any more information.
4. Pinterest : Jenn Martin
This is a way to share and curate images online. Each image has a home on the Internet and is collected at pininterest. It is popular with designers, architects, institutions eg: Smithsonian. Wagga and Parramatta Libraries have pininterest accounts. Want to participate? Please contact Mylee Joseph, State Library mjoseph@sl.nsw.gov.au

- Vassiliki mentioned that in American Libraries RA librarians have a weekly twitter chat about RA skills, how to develop programs, hints and tips etc. #readadv
- Jenn mentioned read watch play as people from all over the world can find out what you are reading. Need to get familiar with twitter to aid professional development. Libraries that have twitter feeds should promote it on their blog.
