The City of Sydney Local Government Area (LGA) has an estimated resident population of 237,278 as of 2024, with a population density of 8,892 people per square kilometre. The LGA covers an area of approximately 26.15 square kilometres. The population has seen a 2.66% increase since the previous year, while Greater Sydney's population growth is at 1.97%.

Census data: 28,745 or 12.9% of the population of the LGA is aged 65 years and over. Current No. of HLS members: As of June 2025, we deliver to 48 individual patrons, 51 individuals in aged care and deliver bulk loans for 2 aged care institutions, 2 Council Community Centres, and 9 (soon to be 10) Council childcare and OSHC.

The City of Sydney Home Library Service delivers library items to the homes or care facilities of people who find it difficult to access their local library due to poor health, disability, full-time carer obligations, chronic conditions and frailty.

For people convalescing at home following an illness, injury or operation, we provide a temporary home library service. We also provide the service to residents in care facilities.

We deliver items including books, audiobooks, magazines, CDs, DVDs and language kits. We either select items according to preferences and specific requests. Or patrons can self-reserve using the online library catalogue. Patrons can also access the library’s full collection of digital resources including ebooks, eaudiobooks, emagazines and enewspapers, and stream music and films.

We have 6 routes covered on a fortnightly basis. Patrons can choose to have regular deliveries either fortnightly or monthly, or on an ad hoc basis.
