2021 Reference Seminar Online

Bookings for the NSW Public Library Reference Seminar for 2021 are now open!

This online seminar will feature a range of fascinating speakers including: Colin Klein (Professor in the School of Philosophy at the Australian National University) who will be speaking about the differences between mis/dis/malinformation and how to identify them, knowledge that is critical in the current climate. Colin will also discuss ways librarians can best provide assistance and education to the people in their communities by helping them become more aware and critical of the information surrounding them every day; Reference Excellence training with Ita, Judy and Michelle from the RISG Steering Committee; DrugInfo training with the State Library; and the ever popular 10 slides in 5 minutes talks will provide fresh and innovative topics from a selection of public libraries.

9.30 Welcome to seminar and Acknowledgement of Country

9.35 Jane Orbell-Smith, Libraries’ Manager, Redcliffe and Caboolture Hospitals’ Libraries to speak about Librarian Reserve Corps. The Librarian Reserve Corps (LRC) were established in March 2020 in response to the growing COVID-19 epidemic and an identified need to capture quality health information. This presentation provides an overview of LRC and how it works with GOARN and WHO to provide “swift emergency response”. You can read more about their work here.
