Multicultural Services Report (JG)

Multicultural Bulk Loan stock update Still a long wait for Portuguese junior and Arabic junior and YA. If you have overdue loans or unused loans in these languages, please return them to the SLNSW. Helen Willliams offered loans from their Portuguese collection. Fairfield also offered can borrow books from them as well.

· New stock of books available for French (junior only), Swedish, Maltese, Croatian and Danish.

MARC Records of loans from SLNSW

· The SLNSW is not able to supply MARC records with your bulk loans or long-term loans.

· Our staff processing the loans do not have the security access for that and it is also not practical for the volume of loans we process each day.

· Libraries that want MARC records of titles from the SLNSW collection can choose to get them through one of the following ways:

Option 1 – Australian Libraries Gateway

If your library has a systems administrator who can make changes to your library management system, they can set up the SLNSW catalogue as a target for Z39.50 searches and download SLNSW catalogue records.

This does not require a password and is free of charge.

Z39.50 details for SLNSW: https://www.nla.gov.au/apps/libraries/?action=ZSvcDetails&zsid=74420&orgid=9038

Option 2 - Libraries Australia

If your library has a Libraries Australia subscription, you can source the MARC records from there. Search by Title.

There is a long wait for bulk loans of Portuguese and Arabic books due to lack of available book stock. Joanna encouraged libraries to return books in these languages if they are no longer required.

Logging into SLNSW catalogue

Joanna advised on how libraries can log into the SLNSW catalogue. Log into the SLNSW catalogue using your libraries registered email address and then you set up a password. Once in you can check the loans that are currently checked out to your library. If you require a full list of loans or lost items contact Joanna who can provide you with this information. Joanna Goh.(joanna.goh@sl.nsw.gov.au) Log in to check your State Library of NSW loans

· New guide available to download from the Wiki. https://wiki.libraries.nsw.gov.au/lib/exe/fetch.php?media=state_library_of_nsw_single-sign-on.pdf

· IMPORTANT NOTE: Claimed returned and Lost items are included in the loans list that you see on the catalogue, but they are not obvious.

· We recommend that libraries contact us directly for a complete record of your loans and renewal requests. mc.bulk.loans@sl.nsw.gov.au

Overdue Notices- This has just been turned on. Some libraries may have received overdue notices. This is meant as a courtesy reminder. If you need a more concise list of the loans that are overdue please contact Joanna

Community Language Directory When you search the directory there has been a glitch in the number of holdings and languages It is hoped that this matter will be rectified shortly. Please note DVDs or eresources are not included in these stats. The numbers recorded per library are meant to be indicative and not an actual number of items held

Multilingual Signage Tool . The committee will meet again before the draft list will be circulated to this group for discussion.

Khmer supplier Svenrini from Fairfield is trying to find a supplier of books in this Khmer. If you can help please let her know.

Multilingual Signage Tool Shauna discussed the progress of the meeting with the sub committee (Cathy Zhai, Kathy Yang, Jenny Zhang, Shauna Miller and Stephanie Lee) and they have suggested that 26 words need to be removed, 23 were unsure, and 22 new words/phrases should be added.
