Sandra gave us an overview of Outreach Services, there are 3 main areas:

1. Seniors programs
2. Home Library – visits are monthly, with about 170 individuals and 13 institutions. There is 2 fulltime staff with the primary role of outreach, but they also do desk shifts.
3. Bus to Library service – monthly door to door service from home to nearest branch library, supported by Bankstown Community Transport. Morning tea provided by the library.

Sandra produces a quarterly newsletter called ‘link out’ aimed at seniors and printed in 16 pt font. Contains information, quizzes, stories, book lists, newsletter is in A4 size about 17-18 pages.

Library Volunteers are involved in English classes, tech savvy programs, knitting group.

HL initially proposed in 1959, but up and running by the 1970’s, the first HL van was purchased in 1982. HL numbers have declined, currently about 105, Sally suggests this is due to not enough time to promote the service. Sally has a partnership with Vision Australia for access to their online audio book catalogue, she also uses Bolinda. The library has purchased Audio-Read Navigators for loan to HL customers, but the content is supplied via Bolinda and VA. Canterbury runs a very successful ‘Dig– it – all’ technology club for seniors, also the Tech Savvy seniors classes. https://www.cbcity.nsw.gov.au/events/dig-it-all-technology-club-for-seniors

• Reminder for individual HLS to upload their profiles online to the HL wiki
• Marketing and Promotion, survey from Julieri for everyone to complete (see Attachment), this will provide her with a basis for the marketing workshop she will run at our AGM in Nov.
• Death And Dying, the Lithgow meeting in May had a guest speaker on Death and Dying. Mylee Joseph (SLNSW) suggested this would be a good topic for Home Library to write a paper on, as this was unique to provision of HLS, the ability to cope with the death of customers. Volunteers were asked for, Sally Meakin volunteered and Mylee offered to assist with this.

The group was asked for Volunteers to form a committee to start planning the next ‘Seniors in Focus’ Seminar for 2018. The committee is:

• Laurie Popple nominated a representative from Wollongong

General discussion regarding effects on the Home Library Service.

A discussion on the detrimental effects on the freeze of the bulk loans from SLNSW, some HLS were reliant on these for additional stock for HL customers. Sherryl (Singleton) need more talking books and Julie – Anne will be able to send some deleted stock from Penrith to Singleton.
