Effective reference work requires knowledge of resources.

Where are the Answers?

Some reference work requires locating quick facts in almanacs or dictionaries. Other reference questions need more complete explanations found in tools such as encyclopaedias. Many searches require consulting a variety of resources, print, online and Internet tools.

What You Will Learn in Module 5

Why and how do you examine reference resources in your collection? What resources are considered essential? Why will knowing a little about the Dewey Decimal System make finding the right resources easier? What resources are available electronically - online or on the Internet? Module 5 helps you learn about the reference resources in your library.

What's New?

New resources are abundant on the Web, and there are now ways to connect clients with the best resources. New links and content to reflect use of new technologies for reference service have been added on many module pages, including the Internet sites, Examining resources and Catalogue pages.
